NY And LA Premiere for Superman/Batman: Apocalypse

I thought this was pretty exciting (It would be even more exciting if I was not already working that day).  If you have free time and plan on being in either city on those days, contact the respective emails in Warner Home Video‘s official press release below, and cross your fingers that there are still free tickets left.  It’s a first come first serve basis.  Get on it!

Warner Home Video, UGO.com and The Paley Center for Media proudly present the bi-coastal World Premieres of Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, the highly anticipated next entry in the ongoing series of DC Universe Animated Original PG-13 Movies, in Los Angeles on September 21 and New York on September 23. Filmmakers and members of the voice cast will attend both events for red carpet media interviews and post-screening panel discussions.
On Tuesday, September 21, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse will screen at the Paley Center in Los Angeles (465 North Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills) with media interviews starting at 5:30 p.m. and screening commencing at 7:00 p.m. A panel discussion moderated by UGO movie editors will follow the screening featuring executive producer Bruce Timm, director Lauren Montgomery, writer Tab Murphy and dialogue/casting director Andrea Romano. Additional participants, including voice cast members, will be announced as confirmed.
On Thursday, September 23, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse will screen at the Paley Center in New York City (25 West 52nd Street) with media interviews starting at 5:00 p.m. and screening commencing at 6:30 p.m.  Following the screening, Kevin Conroy, the fan-favorite voice of Batman, and casting/dialogue director Andrea Romano will lead a panel discussion moderated by UGO movie editors. Additional participants, including voice cast members, will be announced as confirmed.
A limited number of free tickets are available for the general public. Fans wishing to receive free tickets to the Los Angeles event on Sept. 21 must RSVP via email to SupermanBatmanLA@gmail.com This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Fans in New York City wishing to receive free tickets to the NY event on Sept. 23 must RSVP via email to SupermanBatmanNY@gmail.com This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Tickets to both events will be distributed on a “first come, first served” basis.
Based on the DC Comics series/graphic novel “Superman/Batman: Supergirl” by Jeph Loeb, Michael Turner & Peter Steigerwald, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse is produced by animation legend Bruce Timm and directed by Lauren Montgomery (Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths) from a script by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Tab Murphy (Gorillas in the Mist).
In Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, a spaceship splashes down in Gotham City Harbor — leading Batman and Superman to encounter a mysterious Kryptonian with powers as great as those of the Man of Steel. The Kryptonian is soon revealed to be Kara, cousin of Superman, who takes her under his wing to educate her about the ways of Earth. However, the villainous Darkseid has other plans. Seeing an opportunity to finally defeat Superman, Darkseid abducts and gains control of Kara, utilizing the powerful Kryptonian to do his bidding. It’s up to Batman and Superman to save Kara, but they’ll have to take the fight to Darkseid within his hostile world – where unknown, deadly threats lurk around every corner, including a brainwashed Kryptonian able to match Superman blow-for-blow.
Fan favorites Tim Daly (Private Practice) and Kevin Conroy (China Beach) return to their seminal roles as Superman and Batman, respectively. The celebrity-laden guest cast is headed by Andre Braugher (Men of a Certain Age) as the daunting Darkseid. Sci-Fi heroine Summer Glau (Serenity/Firefly, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) provides the voice of Supergirl, and seven-time Emmy Award winner Ed Asner (Up) reprises his Superman: The Animated Series/Justice League role as Granny Goodness.
Produced by Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse will be distributed by Warner Home Video on September 28, 2010.

DC has been blowing Marvel out of the water with amazing back-to-back direct to video epics.  Let’s hope they keep it coming.  Don’t run out of steam now, guys!  Give us what we want; a rogue filled Batman: HUSH flick.  A true detective tale.  Beat a dead horse much, Chris?  Answer…yes!  —ExSleepyInk

2010 New York Comic Con Guests and Artists

With only a little over a month left until zero hour, I know everyone is gearing up for what should hopefully be the best NYCC to date!  If you’re like me, the tension is building.  Will you get the chance to chat up all your favorite creators?  Will you get all the sketches you’ve been dreaming of year round? (Better get there early–with enough money– if you want one from an artist like Brian Bolland, and be ready to possibly come back another day).  Are you going to shake hands with Bruce Campbell, or get a photo-0p with Katee Sackhoff?  It’s enough to keep you in a panic attack for days!  I know I’m already digging out all of the comics I want signed and writing myself a memo of all the artists I’m dying to have draw in my sketchpad.  I’d like you to be able to do the same, so I did some research.  Get a pen and paper ready!  Some of the keystone guests are Stan Lee and  John Romita Sr and Jr.  Others include Geoff Johns, Jeph Loeb, Jim Lee, David Finch, Brian Michael Bendis, J. Michael Straczynski, Adam, Andy, and Joe Kubert, Chris Claremont, Darwyn Cooke, Tony Daniel, Joe Quesada, Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Conner, Geof Darrow, Dan Didio, Matt Fraction, Adam Hughes, Mark Morales, Michael Golden, Bob Layton,  Dustin Nguyen, Greg Pak, Peter Tomasi, and much much more!  Be sure to also check out one of my best friends, David V Mammina, who will have a table showcasing his four novels (one of which I did some sketches for).  He is a dedicated writer of mostly dark fantasy, and a very humble guy.  We will be covering the event, so if you see our badges, come up and say hi.  We’d love to see you all!  The 2010 NYCC is October 8th through the 10th (That’s friday through sunday, folks!).  Below is a list of who you will find in my favorite place, Artist Alley.

Marvel Unveils Plans For Ultimate Spider-Man Animated Series (Including The Creative Team)

I figured since people have been encroaching on my DC territory, I could break my fanboy status just once to drop this juicy tidbit while it’s still steaming and hot out of the oven.  Mmmmm.  Smells good.  Speaking of comic Allegiance; i wonder how it’s gonna be for Paul Dini (who worked on the Batman, Superman, and Justice League animated series, as well as currently writing for DC comics) to play a big part in the beginning of a Marvel series.  Under the sway of the enemy…(chuckles) just kidding!  But seriously, dude, you better not leave us!  This is what Marvel announced…

In a coup for Marvel Entertainment, Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel TV, revealed the all-star, award-winning creative team for the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man animated series, premiering on Disney XD. This team includes the most sought-after and acclaimed writers in the comic and television industries, including Eisner & Emmy award-winning scribe Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series, Lost); Eisner award-winning writer Brian Michael Bendis (visionary behind Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man comic series); and the red-hot creative powerhouse Man of Action Studios (creators of hit series Ben 10 and Generator Rex), comprised of lauded creators Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau and Steven T. Seagle .

Steering Ultimate Spider-Man as the Creative Consultant, Dini will also write the series pilot; as Supervising Producers, Man of Action Studios will direct the writing staff, generate scripts and story edit; and Bendis, the man who reinvented Spider-Man for a new generation, will oversee the series as Consulting Producer.

“When we first sat down to discuss ‘Ultimate Spider-Man,’ we put together a wish list of the most exciting talent working in animation who would bring the best voice and creative direction to the show – and I’m proud to say we got them all,” said Jeph Loeb. “We want ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ to be a showcase for Marvel Animation and Spider-Man is the perfect character to give fans just what they want.”

Working in the Marvel Universe for the first time, Dini explained, “As a lifelong fan of the Marvel Universe, I’m excited to tackle these characters in such a bold new series. ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ will bring fans a new take on their favorite friendly neighborhood hero- and some surprise cast members– while staying true to what’s always made Spidey so popular. We’ve got a superb creative team assembled with amazing stories to tell and I can’t wait for fans to see what we’ve cooked up.”

Bendis echoed those sentiments, exclaiming, “It’s ‘Ultimate Spider-Man,’ the animated series-and it happened in my lifetime! That’s just so cool. I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this and here’s to Jeph Loeb for putting it all together!”

Equally thrilled to join “Ultimate Spider-Man,” the Man of Action team explained, “We’re looking forward to having a lot of fun working on Spider-Man. They’ve brought us in to help provide a unique vision for the show while remaining absolutely true to the character, so that’s exactly what we’ll be doing. Should be a great ride!”

Cort Lane, Vice-President of Animation Production & Development added, “From ‘The Super Hero Squad Show’ to the upcoming ‘Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,’ Marvel Animation is focused on making the best super hero shows for fans of all ages. Now, with this tremendous talent signed for Ultimate Spider-Man, we’re about to give fans super-powered animation like they’ve never seen before.”

Star Wars The Clone Wars Season 3 Trailer

George Lucas enrages fan boys at times. And sometimes, just sometimes he really delivers. The “cartoon” is fantastic. I for one am quite happy about them getting another season. Regardless of the other projects that are struggling to be created. Or even the ones that are being made that will no doubt leave the masses wailing. The Clone Wars are a safe bet to get your Star Wars on.

DC Showcase Original Shorts Collection

DC Entertainment has churning out these straight to DVD animated films like they were pancakes at IHOP. And I can truthfully that I have been enjoying them quite a bit. This next one due out November 9th, will feature the various shorts that accompanied the last three DVD releases. These shorts are comprised of The Spectre featured in Justice League Crisis of Two Earths. Jonah Hex, which came with Batman Under The Red Hood. And Green Arrow who’s short will be part of the Superman/Batman Apocalypse DVD coming September

To make this a must buy for the fan boys, DC will have a brand new short just for this collection. Superman/Shazam! The Return of Back Adam. This “short” will be 22 minutes long. Which is roughly twice as long as the other shorts. I really hope DC Entertainment will give Captain Marvel (Shazam) his own animated film as they have for Wonder Woman and Green Lantern. Now that wold be a Bluray to buy, watch and love. Nut I guess we will have to take what we can get. The Bluray will set you back $29.99 and the standard DVD $19.99.
