Director himself. I think a more tougher Super Man can work, we all remember the WB 11 Superman Cartoon, now that kind of Man of Steel was Brilliant. It can be done... Sharp and heavy visuals like the Dark Knight and not dry, very light and Pale colors like the previous Super Man Returns attempt. There's no reason the world can't be turned upside down from here. Bring in Talia and a Lazarus resurrected Ras. Show Bruce the mysterious possibilities of his crazy future, then bring in Superman. Just as long as it's not Superman's who's gritty, but the situations and world around him, to show the comparison between the darkness and weight of the world and his task to save it, and his unflinching goodness. As Batman would point out...he is a boyscout.
