What is The Futue of Heroes?
Amid the lack luster volume four of Heroes “Fugitives” and declining ratings the show has gotten a season four. Volume five is entitled “Redemption”, and the show is in dire need of it. I would have to say that I was very disappointed in how Fugitives was handled. They fired Jeph Loeb. Made Peter go completely backward. And just couldn’t really decide what direction they wanted to go in. Micha returning as Rebel. HRG finally on the run. And Sylar becoming a killer with a multiple personality were great points in the show. But these awesome plot point were sideline by no follow through. What is missing from this show that had so many of us dying for Monday nights? Character growth. A very integral part of story telling. Everyone wants their show to stay on television forever. But lets face it. The show is really about superheroes. No matter how ordinary you make them to be. The outrageous and fantastical can only be drawn out for so long. You need that big mystery. That amazing climax. And the ultimate finsh. In season one we were given a glimpse of the future. Future Hiro, and Peter were wonderfully crafted from their Present counter parts. We all had hopes of seeing these two guys grow to something resembling those future iterations. Alas, no tough guy image for either character. Instead, time and again Peter and Hiro are made extremely powerful only to be pulled down and PUNKED. What in the world is going on. Volume four should have been called Sylar not Fugitives. In a series as big as Heroes one character should not be whats holding the show together. A strong group dynamic is what propelled the show to world wide fame and it’s the only thing that will put it back on top. Complaining about the budget of the show and the lack of ratings isn’t going to fix the show. Yea the writers strike threw a major monkey wrench into Tim Krings grand design. BUT, there’s always a way out. Go extreme. A show such as 24 pushes the bounders of the characters and the situations they face. Shows like Fringe and Lost make it impossible to figure out what is going on, but always keeps you intrigued. Powerful writing, with a strong arm guiding the course of events throughout the series is needed while having an idea exactly what you want from the show. A goal is nice to have because it’s what drives the series. Keeping the viewers interested, keeps the ratings up, and that keeps the show on. Everyone is happy. NBC, Tim Kring, the actors of the show, and the viewers deserve better. Maybe the entire inner workings of the series is in need of a little restructuring. I don’t believe that would hurt at all.
Heroes season 3 will be available on DVD and Blu Ray on September 1st. Season four volume five will begin on September 22nd. At it’s new earlier time. Mondays at 8pm.

I’m with you, I really want this upcoming season to kick ass. All we can do is hope they get their act together and it doesn’t end up like Smallville.
